"A decade in the denim industry taught me the beauty of indigo—and inspired me to return to its natural roots."
Hi, I’m Sonali Singh Verma.
My love affair with indigo began during my time at NIFT and a pivotal internship in 2014, where I first experienced the raw beauty and craft of denim. That experience sparked a decade-long career in the denim industry, where I immersed myself in the art, structure, and history of the fabric.
However, spending over ten years in the industry opened my eyes to the heavy environmental cost of synthetic indigo dyes. Driven by a desire to give back to the earth, I made a conscious shift toward natural indigo—a plant-based dye rooted in patience, process, and purity.
I created Indigo Genes—a name referencing both genetic roots and classic jeans- to craft natural indigo lifestyle pieces and to give denim a new life by recycling/upccling them. My goal is to share the true beauty of plant dyes while inspiring a shift toward slow, conscious living.
We hope our creations bring rich texture, intention, and a deeper connection to nature into your everyday life.
